Anne's profile for art
Hello and welcome to my web site.
My name is Anne Selby and the site is to showcase some of my art, however, my daughter is a jeweller and my husband works with wood and metal, so occasionally, other arts and crafts will appear.
My career was working in the environment and I spent the last 30 years working for the Wildlife Trusts, fighting to protect our wildlife and precious habitats in the north west of England. Unsurprisingly, it is the wonder and joy of the natural world that constantly inspires me to paint.
Much of my art is trying to capture the beauty that I see but I do love experimenting with different styles, so, occasionally an abstract approach, or cubism, or impressionism will intrigue me and creep into the portfolio. I am very influenced by the work of Michael Morgan whose ability to capture a sense of place and connection to the earth is inspiring. I am predominantly a watercolour artist but have been developing my skills in oil painting with celebrated artist Norman Long, consequently both watercolours and oils will appear.
I am based in Lancashire, although I originate from a farming family in the Yorkshire Dales. I have inherited the traits of not wasting anything that can be re-used or recycled and some frames are re-used and this helps keep framing costs down. Some frames are especially commissioned from my friend Allan Calvert who is a brilliant woodworker and creator of fabulous clocks in the style of Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
I hope you enjoy the selection of paintings and please do get in touch if you have any questions or wish to discuss commissions. E-mail me on -
I hope you enjoy the work.
